FedEx Closes in on Vehicle Fleet Fuel Efficiency Goal Years Ahead of Schedule with Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans

FedEx has made significant progress towards its goal to make its vehicle fleet 20 percent more fuel efficient by 2020, announcing that the FedEx Express vehicle fleet is now 16.6 percent more fuel efficient through FY2011 than it was in 2005. One big factor in this improvement? FedEx has accelerated its efforts in fuel conservation with Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans.

By the end of 2013, FedEx will have more than 11,000 Sprinters in service, which is more than 35 percent of its U.S. pick-up and delivery fleet. Each Sprinter-type van is about 70 to 100 percent more fuel-efficient than the original truck it replaces.

Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Will Be Plug-in Supercar

The Porsche 918, the new Spyder hybrid coming soon, is already making waves for the impact it will most certainly have in the automotive world. The plug-in supercar is slated to go into production in September 2013, with only 918 vehicles set to be made.

Its combined electric and gas output will generate 770 horsepower, 570 of which is from a 4.6-liter V-8. Speed? Zero to 60: under three seconds. Top speed: 202 mph. Fuel economy: 78 mpg. Yes, this truly could change the development of future Porsche vehicles.

Kids get smart with Mercedes-Benz Take Your Child to Work Day

We love the innovative fun people have with their smart cars, so it’s even cooler when kids get to apply their creativity to the unbig vehicles. Recently, smart and Mercedes-Benz USA headquarters hosted Bring Your Child to Work Day, and the kids were let loose on a white smart for some freewheeling decorating.

Employees brought their children to work to show them what they do and to begin planting the seed for their future development. It wasn’t all work, though. The kids got to personalize their own smart wrap. It sits proudly alongside the now famous Billy The Artist smart car from Miami’s Art Basel from this past fall.

Motor Trend Wife Names 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Her ‘New Favorite Car’

Motor Trend has a fun review of the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550, coming soon to Loeber Motors. Writer Jonny Leiberman says that because of his job, he bring a lot of cars home and invites his wife to take a test drive to get her perspective as well. He says that while she is not a car connoisseur, she’s positively swooning for the new SL550:

“When you’re married a while, you fall into certain patterns. One is that when we’re driving home after midnight, my wife likes to put the seat back and sleep. Not in the SL550. She kept talking about the car. It’s so silent with the top up, she noticed. That’s the advantage of a folding hardtop I explained. We drove on and my wife stayed awake the entire time, just talking about the SL550 and how much she liked it. I can honestly say that’s neverhappened before, both her staying awake and talking about a car. Seriously, I don’t think ever. And when we pulled in and parked she turned to me and said, “Do you think Mercedes would give me one of these for a week? I’d totally write them a review.” Whoa, did she ever love this thing.”
